In Win10 settings, it showed as unavailable. Unfortunately, I do not remember the sequence of events, but I remember powering off the printer. So monkeying, I call it, with it wouldn't be any worse. I had read a lot of many user's complaints.

When all else fails, the last thing to do was to monkey around with Windows 10 and the Printer's Menu panel. My firmware version has a 2018 version as its latest.

I was going to re-install the printer's first driver version and firmware version, but I did not get around to it. If there was a darkness setting, that would have helped. There's really not much to do in the Dell printer settings window. I tried changing settings in Windows and in the printer's menu panel.

I use use 20-24 pound, 98 or better whiteness, laser printing paper and NEVER copy or inkjet paper. I did not know if it was a recent 2018 firmware update, or the reputable 3rd party toner, or some other hardware problem causing it. As someone said, "don't send me or suggest the manual".
